Writing About the Writer

What are writers? I met that question when I visited Vergielyn’s blog today after she has graciously followed mine. Though I was tempted to sit down with the question and write a comment in her post, I realized that entertaining the question would best be done here at home.

A lot of people commented that a writer writes. I can hardly argue with that since it is the basic act that made the masters like Shakespeare, Neruda, Poe, and my favorite, Wislawa Szymborska. However, it sounded slightly off. If all writers write, why don’t everyone who write call themselves writers?

Most probably, there’s more to it than just whittling words on paper.

What makes writers different from the rest of the people who write?
